About

Tennistours by People To People Tennis Tours 50 years agoPeople To People Tennis Tours  offers international tennis tours to tennis players, who have traveled together on these international tennis tours intermittently for the past 50 years, playing tennis around the world with locals, fostering international goodwill, friendship & understanding. This tennis membership originated, in 1964, when Bill Halsey, inspired by President Dwight D Eisenhower’s vision of “a voluntary effort by private citizens to advance the cause of international friendship”, started People To People Tennis and Golf in La Jolla, California. Together with his wife Helga, they operated more than 200 tennis and golf tours, engendering much goodwill around the world, until their retirement in 1997. Bill Halsey passed away in 1997 – he loved tennis and he loved to travel, and so we like to think that he would be happy that his legacy of the international tennis tours of goodwill still continues.  Since then, there has been a change of ownership, and name, but the tennis touring membership and mission remains true still today – endeavoring to broaden understanding and friendship with the people of other nations through the mutual interest of tennis.  This is the purpose and the distinguishing factor of the international tennis tours of People To People Tennis. This is our raison d’etre.  The membership is open to those who wish to continue on a mission of international tennis tours, friendship and fun. We invite you to join our traveling tennis club – because everyone smiles in the same language.

Where do we play tennis?

International Tennis Tour by People to People Tennis in South America - offered by Margit SchiessOur tennis tours have taken us into all the corners of the world and in the past five decades we have played tennis at some of the most beautiful tennis clubs – some very elegant, some very intimate and some very interesting. Without exception, we have always been invited back, and indeed, we have been back to many of them a number of times.  Some of our tennis travelers have made lasting friends through these clubs, and have been invited to the members’ homes and have reciprocated when their counterparts visited here in the USA.

How do we ensure that you have also a good game of tennis?

Before we go on our tennis tours, we send our team list together with the tennis rankings of everyone ahead to the tennis club and they will pair you up for a good match of tennis.  We also have a designated team captain at each tennis stop to assist with the pairings and matches. In addition, wherever possible, we stay at hotels that have tennis courts so that those who wish, can practice or also play amongst themselves.

How do we party with our tennis hosts?

After the tennis matches, we host a cocktail/or dinner party usually at our hotel, for our host tennis players and their spouses or partners.  Sometimes our hosts have invited some of us to their homes for a dinner or tea. In addition, we traditionally invite the US Ambassador and US Consulate to our International Tennis Tour in Bangkok - Private invitation - People To People Tennis - offered by Margit Schiessmatches and the ensuing party, If they are tennis players, and have the time, they have joined in the matches and sometimes they just come for the party, giving us a general briefing.

Does everyone have to play tennis?

Although we offer international tennis tours and matches, it is not necessary for both to be tennis players – if your partner wants to come along for the camaraderie and fun and sightseeing – of course you are welcome to come.  And you do not have to be a couple.  We welcome single travelers too – because “tennis begins with love.”

about me

Margit Schiess on an international tennis tour operated by People To People Tennis Tennis Tours in HanoiI was born in the scenic Alps of Austria – from loving Hungarian parents. Raised in memorable, exotic South Africa. Married  to a Swiss national hurdling champion and Springbok high jumper. My domicile is a fairytale cottage nestled amongst the giant Redwoods in the quaint wee town of Mill Valley or in a laid back, mellow “little jewell” of a place called La Jolla in the great state of California.  With more than 20 years of experience in the travel industry, and fluent in several languages - I operate the exciting and  invigorating international tennis tours for People to People Tennis for the like-minded – the adventurous – the bold – the intrepid – the fearless – the tennis players who love to go-go go and see new places and faces and play the game of aces – the game of love – the game of tennis.  If that sounds like you – join me for your international tennis travels – because  “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”  - Mark Twain.
