UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Watch for this UNESCO symbol on the itineraries, for wherever we go, we draw your attention to it. Every World Heritage Site is on my personal to do list – if it is worthwhile being listed as a World Heritage Site – it surely must be worthwhile seeing. And so I say – if it’s on their list, it’s on my list - because ″a traveler without observation is a bird without wings.” – Moslih Eddin Saadi. #tennistours #tennis #travel

The purpose of this tennis blog is to provide a means to reconnect with our People To People Tennis Tours members who travelled with us on our international tennis tours – regardless of whether you are still traveling or playing tennis. To stay in touch with each other. For everyone who participated, past and present, in our international tennis tours will remember their People To People Tennis Tour trips fondly – remember the people who traveled with them – and some will remember their foreign friends. This is your opportunity to reconnect . To add your 2 cents worth. To tell us which tennis trips you went on, which were your favorite, and which tennis tours you still wish to go on. To send us your favorite pictures you took on these tennis trips. And to give us the scoop, the skinny on others, and, of course, yourselves.
As I am currently in the throes of planning the destinations for international tennis tours for the year 2012 your active participation can make all the difference. Indeed! It saves me from offering trips that you have already been on - so help us along and tell us where you want to go, because “not all those who wander are lost” J.R.R. Tolkien

Start this tennis tour by spending 4 days in this splendid city of Prague, and playing your first tennis match. A motor coach takes us to Nurenberg, to board our ship from where we encounter the grand cities and quaint villages along the celebrated Danube River. Explore both sides of Hungary’s capital—traditional “Buda” and more cosmopolitan “Pest”—and from Fishermen’s Bastion, see how the river divides this fascinating city. Experience Vienna’s imperial architecture and gracious culture, and tour riverside towns in Austria’s Wachau Valley. And in Germany, explore a baroque cathedral and stroll cobbled streets lined with half-timbered houses. Savor the tastes of authentic dishes, learn about local legends, and understand why Strauss immortalized the “Blue Danube” in his famous melody. In Budapest we play our second tennis match against the most hospitable Magyars.
DAY 1 Czech Republic – Prague
Arrive in Prague and transfer to your hotel, stretch your legs, take a walk, get the lay of the land or play some tennis. (D) Continue reading

We are delighted to announce that for our international tennis tours in 2012 we have partnered with the deluxe river cruise company – Viking River Cruises. We like the idea of visiting many places – staying put on our deluxe floating hotel – knowing that we eat a variety of gourmet food on board – enjoying the fact that there is little if no busing to the tourist sites – enjoying the fact that nearly all the tours are included – and best of all – to unpack only once. And we think you will like all that and more too. Continue reading

Our first international tennis tour to Vietnam was ten years ago. It was a heartwarming experience and our fun tennis matches with them will stay with me forever – not to speak of our rip-roaring tennis party.
Last year, Viking River Cruises has started operating luxury cruises on the Mekong River. We have included this cruise to our tennis trip. What better way to experience the tranquility of the country side of these two countries all in the comfort of our flotel with the luxury of not having to pack and unpack. This is a great way to see many, many sights and stay well within your comfort zone – or greater comfort zone. The trip is 17 days of fun, travel and tennis.
On this trip you will play two tennis matches, one in Hanoi & one in Saigon with the most gracious hosts and enjoy some of the finest cuisine in the world, while enjoying the natural beauty and rich history just beyond the banks of the magnificent Mekong. So, join us in exploring these two stunning scenic and culturally distinctive lands that lie along Indochina’s most important river – the remarkable Mekong River. From Vietnam’s bustling cities to the tranquility of Cambodia, encounter ancient Khmer monuments and the elegant French colonial capital of Phnom Penh in Cambodia; and in Vietnam, visit the floating markets of the Mekong delta, experience the intimate charm of Hanoi’s old city and tour dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon. People To People Tennis Tours offers international tennis tours to tennis players, who have traveled together on these international tennis tours intermittently for the past 50 years, playing tennis around the world with locals, fostering international goodwill, friendship & understanding. This tennis membership originated, in 1964, when Bill Halsey, inspired by President Dwight D Eisenhower’s vision of “a voluntary effort by private citizens to advance the cause of international friendship”, started People To People Tennis and Golf in La Jolla, California. Together with his wife Helga, they operated more than 200 tennis and golf tours, engendering much goodwill around the world, until their retirement in 1997. Bill Halsey passed away in 1997 – he loved tennis and he loved to travel, and so we like to think that he would be happy that his legacy of the international tennis tours of goodwill still continues. Since then, there has been a change of ownership, and name, but the tennis touring membership and mission remains true still today – endeavoring to broaden understanding and friendship with the people of other nations through the mutual interest of tennis. This is the purpose and the distinguishing factor of the international tennis tours of People To People Tennis. This is our raison d’etre. The membership is open to those who wish to continue on a mission of international tennis tours, friendship and fun. We invite you to join our traveling tennis club – because everyone smiles in the same language.

We may be the adventurous, the fearless, the intrepid and the bold - but we are creatures of comforts, and we like to travel deluxe. Our accommodations – hotels, paradors paradors, estancias, safari camps, luxury trains, small river cruises and motor coach travel are deluxe, luxury, 5 star or best available. For our international tennis tours of 2012, we have added luxury river cruises by Viking River Cruises. The ease of travel, smooth waters, the daily all inclusive land excursions, the luxury and comfort of unpacking only once, the excellent all inclusive regional and classical cuisine, nightly relevant cultural entertainment all enriches and adds to the luxury of travel. In essence, the small ship is replacing our motor coach and short air hops of the past, making it a superbly relaxing and luxurious way of travel. On each end of these short cruises we have our tennis matches arranged. The size of our groups are typically between 24 – 28 travelers and all ages are welcome.
UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Watch for this UNESCO symbol on the itineraries for we pack in a host of them and if it’s there we draw your attention to it. Where do we play tennis?
Our tennis tours have taken us into all the corners of the world and in the past five decades we have played tennis at some of the most beautiful tennis clubs – some very elegant, some very intimate and some very interesting. Without exception, we have always been invited back, and indeed, we have been back to many of them a number of times. Some of our tennis travelers have made lasting friends through these clubs, and have been invited to the members’ homes and have reciprocated when their counterparts visited here in the USA.
How do we ensure that you have also a good game of tennis?
Before we go on our tennis tours, we send our team list together with the tennis rankings of everyone ahead to the tennis club and they will pair you up for a good match of tennis. We also have a designated team captain at each tennis stop to assist with the pairings and matches. In addition, wherever possible, we stay at hotels that have tennis courts so that those who wish, can practice or also play amongst themselves.
How do we party with our tennis hosts?
After the tennis matches, we host a cocktail/or dinner party usually at our hotel, for our host tennis players and their spouses or partners. Sometimes our hosts have invited some of us to their homes for a dinner or tea. In addition, we traditionally invite the US Ambassador and US Consulate to our matches and the ensuing party, If they are tennis players, and have the time, they have joined in the matches and sometimes they just come for the party, giving us a general briefing.
Does everyone have to play tennis?
Although we offer international tennis tours and matches, it is not necessary for both to be tennis players – if your partner wants to come along for the camaraderie and fun and sightseeing – of course you are welcome to come. And you do not have to be a couple. We welcome single travelers too – because “tennis begins with love.”
I was born in the scenic Alps of Austria – from loving Hungarian parents. Raised in memorable, exotic South Africa. Married to a Swiss national hurdling champion and Springbok high jumper. My domicile is a fairytale cottage nestled amongst the giant Redwoods in the quaint wee town of Mill Valley or in a laid back, mellow “little jewell” of a place called La Jolla in the great state of California. With more than 20 years of experience in the travel industry, and fluent in several languages - I operate the exciting and invigorating international tennis tours for People to People Tennis for the like-minded – the adventurous – the bold – the intrepid – the fearless – the tennis players who love to go-go go and see new places and faces and play the game of aces – the game of love – the game of tennis. If that sounds like you – join me for your international tennis travels – because “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain.
